Bio:

Gianluca is a postdoctoral researcher in Cognitive Neuroscience, currently affiliated to the Department of Psychology, University of Zurich. He received his PhD at the Neuropsychology Unit of the University Hospital of Zurich after visiting for a year the Department of Experimental Psychology of the University of Utrecht. His journey in research started at the University of Milano-Bicocca and ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda of Milan, where he completed his master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience and his post-graduate research internship. Combining methods from neuropsychology, behavioural neurology and psychiatry his research interests are the cerebral, behavioural and phenomenological mechanisms underlying the bodily self in healthy individuals and clinical populations. A particular focus is on persons with body integrity dysphoria, traumatic amputees with phantom limb sensations and brain-damaged individuals.

The empirical approach he pursues consists in the integration of neuroimaging (functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging), neuromodulation (transcranial direct current stimulation, trascranial magnetic stimulation), gaze behaviour and clinical data. The final goal of his research is the translation of the results into practical clinical applications for both diagnostics and treatment purposes
